Judy blew me away in this film. As far as I’m concerned, it was her best work up until that point (including THE WIZARD OF OZ)! What blasphemy! But just watch her here. The depth of emotion that she’s capable of portraying after so many years of film-making is truly staggering. She’s barely 17 here! What talent.
Mickey, Judy, and June hanging out on the set of BABES IN ARMS (1939).
Judy did it first!
I flippin love these two together. I think I’ve posted this before but eh. This performance needs to be on tumblr multiple times don’t you think? Here’s Judy and Mickey performing “Good Morning” before Gene Kelly, Debbie Reynolds, and Donald O’Connor performed it in SINGIN IN THE RAIN (1953).
Awesome Musical Couple #4 (not in order of importance!):
Judy Garland and Mickey Rooney
They’re definitely the youngest couple on my list! I mostly love them for their off-screen friendship and not really for their films (‘cause let’s face it: they’re all pretty much the same) BUT I have their 4-musical-film collection and I absolutely adore it. Here’s a scene from BABES IN ARMS (1939) where they perform “Good Morning” beautifully!
Also sing-a-long with them in: LOVE FINDS ANDY HARDY (1938), STRIKE UP THE BAND (1940), BABES ON BROADWAY (1941) and GIRL CRAZY (1943).
Queue Mickey Rooney and Judy Garland Day! Mickey is pleased!
Say what you will about Mickey and Judy musicals. They’re a whole lot of fun and super adorable. =)
